New York Mills
Think Off
"Is Democracy Fair?"
(....a local event since 1993)
Here's what June 10, 2000 looked like in and around New York Mills.
Just in from the lake....this is how we dry our swim suits in hurry.  We don't have to be formal to go to the
"Think Off"
Ted Meinhover, a Senior at Perham High School:  "Is democracy fair?"
"In my opinion, Democracy is fair. In theory. Reality, unfortunately, does not live up to the ideal. I would compare our democracy to a machine with gears, pulleys, and wheels. Ideally, this machine is efficient; the amount of energy you put in equals the amount of energy you get out. Along the way, however, energy is lost due to friction and other factors. Like the machine, our democratic system is ideally completely fair. But, also, like the machine, it does not run at %100 when put to use in the real world."

We have grown an excellent crop of flowers this year. Please stop out to the Shop at Grassroots in OtterTail.  We're open everyday until November.
Thunder storm went through about
3:00am last night, with 1/2 inch of rain.
Some fields look real good,  First cutting was great.
The big center pivot irrigators have already started pumping onto the fast growing potatoes.
Jolie Sasseville, the Executive Director of the Mills Cultural Center at the High school along with a host of wonderful volunteers.....to get stuff ready for the "Think Off"
Welcome to our Cultural Center
Quiet and local..... where the keys are always in the ignition.

George and Viola Cresswell, two of early volunteers to the Cultural Center,  check out the activity early in the day.  "We're back to volunteering again"
Mark and Cindy Olson at a Local Antique Shop.  "What do you think of the
"Think Off" Question this year?  "There's always the ideal and then there's always the realty.  Democracy always gets skewed in the direction of the most powerful."
