Welcome
First Annual
SPRING FLING
A Prom for the Developmentally Disabled
May 8, 2000
On Sunday, May 8th, the Perham High School student council hosted a spring fling formal for people with developmental disabilities. The student council members filed into the auditorium with sleep still in their eyes. They were very tired athe day after prom, but they were eager to help set up the decorations. At 4:30 the whole event started with picture taking outside, courtesy of Tom Meinhover. Then the procession of tuxes and formal dresses moved inside for the grand march, which was held in the auditorium. The decorations from prom were reused. Everyone had their chance to walk out in front of the stars and moon on stage. Afterwards, everyone had a quick bite to eat and got ready to dance the night away.
Ma and Pa Lenius with their daughter Katie who is all dolled up in her yellow dress. Katie said, "I hate yellow." But we think that she looked great.

These ladies got to pick out a lovely corsage to compliment their outfits. The corsages were handmade and donated by Arlene Miller. I would like to take this oppurtunity to personally thank her for all of the hours of work that she put into them. She also made all the boutanniers for the guys. We handed them out to people before the pictures. They all got to pick out which one they wanted to wear.
Throughout the day, it was hard to tell who was more excited, the friends and family members or the actual attendents themselves. Many of the friends and family memebers stayed throughout the whole event and participated in the events. I think that attitudes like that are what made this such a fun thing for everyone. Thank you guys.
Excitement filled the warm spring air as the sun shone down on the fragrant crab trees. Gale and Jamison's expressions reflect the excitement of the day.

Katie and Ken are all smiles as they prepare to dance the night away after the grand march. All of the couples had a blast at the dance.
The flowers on the crab trees were hard to out do, but Pamela easily steals the spotlight from them in her lovely red dress. Pam and Chris wait with anticipation for the events yet to come.
"This tux may not be made for comfort, but that's the price you pay to look this good."
What a handsome bunch of guys!
I bet they are waiting for the
dance to strut their stuff.

Everyone got all dressed up for this event, but everyone wore something to reflect their own personality. Way to make a statement guys
The Perham High School Student Council, still in their formals from the night before, stand with the attendents of the prom. We all came together for this night and made new friends and acquintances. Some of the student council members commented after the dance that "I've never had this much fun before."
