On March 16 at 6:20,
the Perham Science Research Team met in the Chemistry Room of the High
School to hear the instructions of Coach Schwarz. Besides reminding
them of their projects and presentations; the primary message was character
and fair play.
| "...remember, winning is great, but what you learned is the most important." Beth's 'pre-game' pep talk to the Science Competition kids at 6:15AM. | "Yes, Ms Schwarz, we are awake!" |
| After months of work in research: 'are we ready?' | |
| Beth's science room, like the backstage of a play shows the disorder of many hands at work. | "We're Ready!" |
| ".............the ride is long and this is way to early for me, says Jill Wieler | At dawn the Bauck Bus was at the south door, ready for the trip to the regional competition at Concordia in Moorhead. |

As is Beth's
assertive coaching style: Perham is the first to register. It
goes smoothly, but the nerves start to kick in as judging approaches. What
character building!!! |
This is the lonely scene, an empty stage that as first arrivals the Perham's participants start to set up their individual research projects. Soon the exhibit hall will be packed with people, noise and temporary confusion. |
| TEAM WORK!! | TEAM WORK!!! |
| TEAM WORK!!!! | Gary Delaney, getting set up for what will be a "State Bound" project. |
| Concordia College's registration team with Fair Director Steve Dahlberg. Steve had an interesting struggle recovering from the previous weeks postponement of the competition ........snowstorm!!!! | Dad's (and Mom's) were a huge asset to the PHS Research Team. |
| "I love this. These Kids are awesome." says Beth. | The presentation of the 'data' collected, analyzed are displayed on three panel boards. These displays are used as a basis of each student's report. Derrick did an excellent job of creatively showing his data. |
| Jessica and Dominique put the finishing touches on their 'board.' The compulsion to move them around and make them every better drives many to perfection. | Kelly and Paul unwrapping their State Bound project |
Director for this "Western Minnesota Regional Science Fair" was Steve Dahlberg. As this was his first year as director, it was a trial of fire (because of the snow storm on March 9th) |

A moment to
huddle up |
"When are the judges going to
arrive and will they know what's going on!!" (Note: Paul Hermanson without a hat on) |
"Look out judges......I'm ready!" |
| "I love to handle the stress of the moment....." |
Winners from the 2001 State
competition Meinhover and Wacker are together on a team project this year.

| You can have the best data in the world......give a poor presentation and you go no where. Sarah and Kate have done other activities in like Mock Trial and Speech which have given them the additional skills to be winners. | It was very gratifying to see such crowds at this Science Fair. |
Thanks Special thanks to Steve Knutilla of .......with assistance given to Jessica Neisen and Dominique Seifert's project called Interdependance of Stocks.........and to Perham Memorial Home and Hospital and Chuck Hofius who helped Jill Wieler's project called Restraining Restraints. Community support not only helps the projects but keeps the program strong and growing. |

Judges making decisions!! |
| The awards ceremony should be a high point of the competition. (editor suggestion: 'Let's do a better job of it next year. ') | "and Oh by the way.......Kate Meinhover and Sarah Wacker, you are going to the International Science fair in Kentucky. |
| Working out the ISEF details. This activity is full of details.....and the good coaching really shows here. | Tim Wacker congratulates Katie his daughter, Sarah"s team partner. |
| "you're right.........blue ribbons do taste better." | Paperwork.........this competition makes sure lots of trees are cut to feed the beast. |
