When we asked Andy and Ted what the Student Council did to ready for this third annual Red Cross blood Drive, They said, "We helped in organizing volunteers  and in  getting food.  Thanks to Barrel o Fun and Kenny's Candy.  We have been very successful in getting the high school kids to not only volunteer,  but to give blood, many for the first time..  Most of the Juniors are first time giving...SADD and the National Honor Society were very active in helping these two days be successful.  David Howie  at the Radio Station, KPRW gave us 'air time' to help promote the School Blood drive."

Two of the Red Cross Nurses, Linda from Alex. and Karen from Melrose, gave our Perham High School lots of praise.

"We can give the Perham kids a first place award for how well they put this together.  We were amazed.  The balloons and cookies and all the kids willing to help. The kids are very friendly when they come into give blood.  for allot of them.......their parents start them out."

The community of Perham thanks you nurses for such the positive attitude you had in helping our kids make this possible.

Matt Sharp from Perham checks in with Suzie Rethmeier.  Suzie said when interviewed,   "last year we had about 140 kids who tried to give blood, but of those we lost about 30 who could not give for various reasons"......but actually we attract more adults with our school - community blood drive then we do kids..  The first year, student body President  Foltz organized this at the VFW in Perham at the beginning of school year, in the fall.  When we lost one of our students in an accident that  year,  it motivated the kids to do it at the school. The Red Cross was very willing to cooperate.  That was the same year that Amy Paulson had her accident and that got allot of kids involved."

Senior Paula Strome volunteered with allot of SADD kids.  She said about the event, "What the kids gain from this is that once they give for the first time, they will probably give for the rest of their lives.  some kids have already given  three times since we started this."

Russ Winkels,  'Computer Specialist' for the school district.  "I give each year to make sure that we have enough blood supply and I  might have a need for their services  some day

Mike Kaminski of Perham, recently retired from working with the City of Perham after many years has been giving blood for many years.  Good luck Mike in your next career.

Senior Student Council  Vice-President Ted Meinhover gives blood for the third time since coming 'of age'  Jackie Schumacher looks on.  There were volunteers available for each student who gave blood.  Around for the assurance.

Mrs. Duane Brown.

Her Husband Duane came to Perham in the early 60's as one of our first wrestling coaches and a fine English teachers.  She remembers Perham fondly.  Duane is now retired and they live in New London, Mn. She has been working with Red Cross for about 7 years.  She had nice things to say about our Kids and Town.

Many of the institutions  and businesses in town cooperated with us.  The message we would like to give the community is.....'the PHS kids come through'"  The word of mouth is one of our best recruiters.  Someone sees someone else giving and they say.......I can do that too.

David Howie a recent new-comer to our Perham area does the 'talk of the town' on our local radio Station KPRW each morning.  We welcome all the interest in community events that David and the station give to our local events and politics.  Keep it up please.  It is nice to have a second source of information in our community.

Head Nurse Kaye Jorgenson from St Paul,  "High Schools are pretty much a success  for us at Red Cross.  We get those first time donors in the door and hope they will continue on.  During a war it is easy to get people started or  when more of the kids were in the services they have while in the military.  This is a good way to get he kids started.
